Our mission

On course for rehabilitation.

Our mission is to help adults affected by stroke, disability and serious ill health reconnect with golf, rebuild confidence and become part of a supportive community.

Helping people reconnect

Helping people reconnect through golf

A stroke, disability or serious illness can change much more than someone’s physical health. It can affect confidence, independence, friendships, routines and the activities that once formed an important part of everyday life.

Stroke Play Golf exists to help people reconnect.

We create welcoming and accessible opportunities for people to enjoy golf at a level that works for them. That might mean playing nine holes in a buggy, hitting a few balls on the driving range, putting, receiving adapted coaching, or simply coming to the golf club for a cup of tea and some company.

You don’t have to play 18 holes. You don’t even have to play golf.

What matters is creating an opportunity to get out, meet people, rebuild confidence and feel part of something again.

More than golf

Golf provides the setting, but the impact can go much further

  • rebuild confidence after a life-changing health event;
  • reconnect socially and reduce isolation;
  • rediscover an activity they thought they had lost;
  • try golf for the first time in a supportive environment;
  • participate alongside family and friends;
  • progress at their own pace, without pressure or competition; and
  • become part of their local golf and wider community.

We work with golf clubs, coaches, volunteers, businesses and supporters to make those opportunities possible.

Stroke Play Golf does not provide medical treatment or clinical rehabilitation. Our role is to complement people’s wider recovery and rehabilitation by creating opportunities for participation, confidence, friendship and community through golf.

Our ambition

A network of welcoming golf clubs

Created in the North East with national ambitions, we want to build a network of welcoming golf clubs and communities where people affected by stroke, disability and serious ill health know there is somewhere they can go, however much or however little golf they are able to play.

A place where the first question isn’t “How good are you at golf?”

It’s “How can we help you take part?”
